AI, digital sovereignty, cybersecurity, health: four key trends at VIVA Technology 2025

VIVA Technology 2025, which drew a record-breaking 180,000 visitors, 14,000 startups, and delegates from over 170 countries, spotlighted several transformative tech trends shaping the global landscape.

1. AI Everywhere

Artificial Intelligence was omnipresent—encompassing generative models, agent-based systems, robotics, and autonomous agents. A standout statistic: 40% of exhibitors showcased AI-powered solutions across sectors like healthcare, finance, construction, and energy. AI “avenues” by Salesforce and AWS, as well as NVIDIA’s inaugural GTC Paris held onsite, underscored its central role in global innovation.

2. Digital Sovereignty: A European Mandate

European sovereignty in AI and cloud became a dominant theme. A high-profile panel featuring Jensen Huang (NVIDIA), Arthur Mensch (Mistral AI), and President Emmanuel Macron emphasized building a fully European AI value chain—from data and chips to models—catalyzing projects like the Mistral Compute infrastructure. Startups such as Scaleway, OVHcloud, Nextcloud, and Ionos highlighted the growing availability of Europe-based sovereign cloud services as alternatives to U.S. hyperscalers.

3. Cybersecurity & Quantum Defence

Privacy and cyber resilience took center stage amid rising threats—especially as quantum computing begins to disrupt traditional encryption. Panels and displays integrated themes like quantum security, zero-trust architectures, and advanced cyber-defences for cloud and IoT environments . French startups like Tehtris and Filigran demonstrated regional momentum in emerging cybersecurity solutions.

4. Health & Longevity Tech

Health and well-being featured prominently via AI-driven innovations for diagnostics, telemedicine, mental fitness, and femtech. According to the official VivaTech themes, AI could potentially reduce healthcare costs by up to 10% and significantly accelerate drug development. Startups—including those showcased in BNP Paribas’s “House of Innovations”—presented solutions such as satellite-based ocean health monitoring (Ocean Eyes) and atmospheric water generators (Kumulus Water), reflecting a broader trend in impact tech and responsible innovation.
